IndusInd Bank guide

Converting an IndusInd Bank statement into Tally

IndusInd's current-account and trade-finance business makes it a common bank for importers, exporters, and traders — this guide covers its statement format on its own terms.

A bit of background

One of India's original "new generation" private banks

IndusInd Bank was incorporated in January 1994 and began operations that April in Mumbai, promoted by the Hinduja Group — one of the first private banks licensed after India opened up banking to private players in the early 1990s. It's built a particular strength in trade finance and foreign exchange for business accounts, with current-account products aimed specifically at importers and exporters needing FX desks, documentary credit, and inward/outward remittance handling alongside ordinary bookkeeping.

In early-to-mid 2025, IndusInd Bank disclosed internal accounting discrepancies in its derivatives portfolio following a Grant Thornton review — a cumulative profit-and-loss impact of around ₹1,960 crore from incorrectly accounted internal derivative trades, plus a separate ₹674 crore discrepancy in microfinance interest income that has since been reversed. Both the CEO and Deputy CEO resigned, and the matter has been referred to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office. This was a derivatives and microfinance-portfolio accounting issue at the bank's own books — it has no bearing on the accuracy of a retail or current-account statement PDF, which is what bank2tally reads — but it's recent enough, and significant enough, that an accountant researching this bank should know it happened rather than hear about it secondhand.

Step 1

Downloading your statement

In IndusInd net banking, log in with your Customer ID, open Accounts, select the account, and go to Statement of Account — choose your date range (up to two years is available online) and download the PDF. The IndusMobile app offers the same under Accounts → Statement. The PDF opens with your date of birth as the password, in DDMMYYYY format.

Step 2

What's actually printed on the statement

IndusInd statements use six columns: Date, Narration, Chq/Ref, Withdrawal, Deposit, and Balance — a leaner layout than banks that split a Value Date out separately. Dates print as "01-Mar-2026". Business and trade-finance accounts can carry FX-related narrations alongside ordinary domestic transfers; bank2tally reads the row the same way regardless of what the narration describes, mapping it by your rules or posting it to Suspense if nothing matches, so a foreign-exchange line isn't silently dropped or misclassified.

Step 3

Convert and import

Upload the PDF on bank2tally, select IndusInd Bank, and enter the date-of-birth password. Every row is read against IndusInd's real column positions and mapped to a ledger by its narration, with unmatched lines going to Suspense rather than a guess. Download the XML and import it in Tally Prime via Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers for balanced Payment and Receipt vouchers.

Support for IndusInd Bank is new on bank2tally — the column layout is built from verified statement data, but please check your first conversion's figures against the original PDF before relying on it, and let us know if anything looks off.

Questions

What is the password on an IndusInd Bank statement PDF?

Your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format.

Did IndusInd Bank's 2025 accounting issue affect customer statements?

No. The disclosed accounting discrepancies were in IndusInd's own derivatives and microfinance-portfolio accounting, not in retail or current-account statement records — the PDF statement your bank issues you is unaffected.

Does bank2tally handle IndusInd's trade-finance or FX transactions?

Yes — bank2tally reads every row the same way regardless of what the narration describes, mapping it to your rules or posting it to Suspense if nothing matches, so an FX line isn't dropped.
