IDFC FIRST Bank guide

Converting an IDFC FIRST Bank statement into Tally

IDFC FIRST is one of the younger private banks on bank2tally's list, with a statement format and account structure that's worth understanding on its own terms rather than assuming it behaves like an older, more traditional bank.

A bit of background

IDFC FIRST Bank is younger than its account history might suggest

IDFC FIRST Bank was formed in December 2018, when Capital First — a retail and MSME lender led by V. Vaidyanathan — merged into IDFC Bank. It was structured as a reverse merger: IDFC Bank was the surviving legal entity, but Capital First's retail-lending focus and leadership (Vaidyanathan became, and remains, MD & CEO) effectively took over the combined bank's direction. More recently, in October 2024, IDFC FIRST Bank completed a merger with its parent company, IDFC Limited — a shareholding simplification that removed a holding-company layer above the bank. Neither event changed account numbers, statement formats, or anything a bookkeeper would need to redo; it's background worth knowing if a client asks why their "IDFC" statement says "IDFC FIRST."

Step 1

Downloading your statement

In IDFC FIRST Bank's net banking, go to Accounts → Account Statement (or e-Statement), pick the account and date range, and download the PDF. The mobile app offers the same path under Accounts → Statement. The PDF's password is your PAN number in uppercase, with no spaces — for example ABCDE1234F — a simpler, single-field password than banks that combine two pieces of information. If the file won't open, double-check for a lowercase PAN or an extra space; both are the most common reason this password format fails.

Step 2

What's actually printed on the statement

IDFC FIRST statements use seven columns: Date and Time, Value Date, Transaction Details, Ref/Cheque No., Withdrawals (INR), Deposits (INR), and Balance (INR) — dates print as "01-Mar-2026" or sometimes "01 Mar 26". The explicit "(INR)" on every amount column is distinctive to IDFC FIRST among the banks bank2tally supports; it doesn't change how the figures are read, but it's a quick visual way to confirm you're looking at the right statement if several PDFs are open at once.

IDFC FIRST markets its savings account on a relatively high interest rate credited monthly rather than the quarterly schedule most Indian banks use — if you're reconciling interest income month to month rather than quarter to quarter for an IDFC FIRST account, that's expected, not a parsing issue.

Step 3

Convert and import

Upload the PDF on bank2tally, select IDFC FIRST Bank, and enter the PAN-format password if the file is locked. Every row is read against IDFC FIRST's real column positions and mapped to a ledger by its narration; anything unrecognised is posted to Suspense rather than guessed at. Download the XML and import it in Tally Prime via Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers — balanced Payment and Receipt vouchers, ready to review.

Support for IDFC FIRST Bank is new on bank2tally — the column layout is built from verified statement data, but please check your first conversion's figures against the original PDF before relying on it, and let us know if anything looks off.

Questions

Is IDFC FIRST Bank the same as IDFC Bank?

IDFC FIRST Bank was formed in 2018 when Capital First merged into IDFC Bank. It's the same legal banking entity with a new name, leadership, and direction — not a separate bank you'd need a different statement format for.

What is the password on an IDFC FIRST Bank statement PDF?

Your PAN number in uppercase, with no spaces — for example ABCDE1234F.

Why does my IDFC FIRST statement show interest credited monthly?

IDFC FIRST credits savings account interest monthly rather than the quarterly schedule most Indian banks use — that's expected behaviour, not something bank2tally's conversion affects.
