An alternative path

Import bank statements to Tally without Connected Banking

TallyPrime's own Connected Banking feature links your bank account to Tally for automatic statements and reconciliation — but it has real prerequisites, and it doesn't cover every bank. If you're not set up for it, or your bank isn't on its list, converting the PDF you already have is the faster path.

What Connected Banking requires

It's a real feature, with real setup

Per Tally's own documentation, Connected Banking needs TallyPrime Release 6.0 or later, an active TSS (Tally Software Service) subscription, and enrolling your account with two-factor authentication and Tally.NET credentials. It currently supports four partner banks: Axis Bank, SBI, ICICI and Kotak Mahindra.

Notably absent: HDFC Bank — India's largest private bank isn't a Connected Banking partner at all, connected or not.

The alternative

Use the PDF your bank already sends you

bank2tally skips the enrollment entirely — no TallyPrime version requirement, no TSS subscription, no bank login inside Tally. Just the statement PDF you download from net banking or get emailed every month, for HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, BOB, Union Bank and Canara. Upload it, get Tally XML back.

Comparing the two paths

Connected Banking vs converting the PDF

Connected Banking, once it's set up, pulls transactions automatically without you downloading anything — that convenience is real and worth having if your bank is on its partner list and you're on a TallyPrime release with an active TSS subscription. Converting the PDF trades that ongoing automation for something available right now: no version check, no subscription, no enrolment wait, and it works for banks Connected Banking doesn't cover at all, HDFC being the clearest example. Many firms end up using both — Connected Banking for the banks it supports, and a converter for everything else.

Setting expectations

What converting a PDF does — and doesn't — replace

A converted statement gives you balanced Payment and Receipt vouchers, mapped to ledgers by narration, exactly like a manual entry would produce — it doesn't add bank-side reconciliation status or auto-match against existing vouchers the way a live Connected Banking feed can. For most bank statement imports — turning a month's PDF into vouchers you then review — that difference doesn't matter. If you specifically need live reconciliation against vouchers already in Tally, Connected Banking (where your bank supports it) is doing a different job than a converter is built to do.

Questions

Which banks does TallyPrime's Connected Banking support?

Four partner banks: Axis Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. HDFC Bank is not currently a Connected Banking partner.

Do I need a TSS subscription to use bank2tally?

No. bank2tally is separate from Tally's own subscription and Connected Banking system — it just converts a PDF statement you already have into Tally-importable XML.

Is this an official Tally feature?

No. bank2tally is an independent, third-party converter — not affiliated with Tally Solutions. It produces a standard Tally XML import file, the same kind you'd get from any Tally-compatible conversion tool.
